Our esteemed leader, Atatürk, who recognized the vital role of education in Turkey's modernization, emphasized the significance of private initiatives in Education to reach the targeted level in education during his speech at the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on November 1, 1925, urging societal involvement.
On January 31, 1928, TED was established as the inaugural non-governmental organization in the field of education in our Republic, originally named the "Turkish Maarif Society," within the premises where the First Grand National Assembly convened.
During the 1923-1924 academic year, only 7,146 students were enrolled in 72 secondary schools and 23 high schools in our country, with a large portion of the primary school-age population not attending school. The Turkish Education Association Schools emerged to address this pressing need. In its inaugural year of 1928, our association provided literacy courses to 5,700 citizens.
