The Turkish Education Association offers extensive scholarship programs to deserving students facing financial barriers to quality education. Fostering equal educational opportunities across all societal strata is a primary objective of the Turkish Education Association. To this end, the association diligently operates a distinctive and inclusive scholarship system aimed at "advancing equal access to education and nurturing well-prepared individuals," which has been one of its three core missions since its establishment.
"I lost my father when I was very young, and I found myself engulfed in darkness, unable to see the light above the water's surface. Yet, in my moment of despair, a helping hand reached out to me. With one swift motion, it pulled me up from the depths. I will never forget the hero of my story, the Turkish Education Association. Today, I stand secure and enlightened, guided by the glow of a mighty torch.”
The Education Scholarship program, whose students are selected through interviews (home visits) conducted after centralized exams held throughout Turkey, covers not only school fees but also all expenses, including pocket money, transportation, food, books and stationery, clothing, and dormitory (if the student is a boarding student). Scholarships are granted to students who qualify for inclusion in the system, enabling them to receive education and graduate from TED Schools. Furthermore, these scholarships continue to be provided throughout their university education. Additionally, the program supports internship and career follow-up for university students, as well as assisting in the placement process for graduate students. Up until today, 50,000 students have benefited from the TED Scholarship System.
This scholarship is granted to academically successful students who study at public schools and have limited financial means. The Support Scholarship is provided to students who meet the criteria determined by the Turkish Education Association, and whose interviews and document reviews yield positive results. Students are supported from the class level they qualify for the scholarship until the end of university. In addition to providing financial support to cover students’ educational expenses, their academic and psychosocial progress is also monitored. Every weekend, various training sessions are held under the headings of English lessons, sports, and art activities to support their social and cultural development. Support Scholarship students attend classes at TED Schools or TED University on weekends.
The Turkish Education Association (TED) remains vigilant to the needs of our country, particularly in times of social crises, ensuring support for affected children. TED extends assistance to the children of workers who lost their lives in the Soma mine disaster through the "Give a Hand to Soma" campaign and aids those impacted by earthquakes with the "We are With You, Elazığ" initiative. A total of 186 children in Soma and 57 children in Elazığ were recipients of these scholarships. Following the earthquakes on February 6, approximately 800 students who lost their parents received support through the TED Disaster Scholarship under the "Don't Let Earthquake Destroy Our Future" campaign. This scholarship program is designed to continue for around eight years, covering the duration of their high school education. Alongside financial assistance, the program includes psychosocial and academic support activities to ensure the holistic well-being of the recipients.
Our Association, which believes in the importance of whole person development of young people who will create the future of a country, considers it as a duty to support the training of successful young people who will represent our country in every field and has offered a scholarship for the young people who are talented and successful in sports but are unable to continue their sports careers due to financial difficulties. As of 2020-2021 academic year, our association started to grant this scholarship. The scope of the scholarship programme provided by TED is to cover the educational expenses of the athletes starting from the school grade in which they are entitled to a scholarship until the end of their high school education and to support the athletes to gain international qualifications.
TED Adana Bekir Sapmaz Student Dormitory
TED Adana Bekir Sapmaz Student Dormitory, which has provided accommodation to thousands of students over 63 years, was founded on October 28, 1949, by Bekir Sapmaz and Ahmet Sapmaz, esteemed businessmen from Adana who established Turkey's first textile factory. The dormitory, initially established through the renovation of an old school building, was generously donated to the Turkish Education Association by the Sapmaz Family to ensure its continuation in a more institutionalized structure.
Students who demonstrate academic success but lack financial means are accepted into the dormitory, with their expenses covered by the income generated from two business houses also donated by the Sapmaz family. With a capacity to accommodate 234 students, TED Adana Bekir Sapmaz Student Dormitory has housed approximately 1,700 students free of charge and around 5,000 students at a nominal fee. The Turkish Education Association aims to expand its reach by increasing the number of scholarship students residing in the dormitories.
TED Karabük College Student Dormitory
